First Edition of "Rookie Spotlight": Sam Tuttle

The Michigan State University Men’s Club Lacrosse team welcomes in a new class of 20 athletes to the program for the 2016 season – 17 of which are current freshman. Each week MichiganStateLacrosse.Com will sit down with one of our newcomers for an introduction to Spartan Nation. 

First up, freshman midfielder Sam Tuttle:

On the decision to come to East Lansing… As soon as I stepped on the MSU campus I knew this would be my home for the next four years. I wanted to come to a place where I would be out of my comfort zone so that I could grow as a person on my own. I'm thankful that I decided to come here because it's one of the best decisions I ever made. 

On going to school across the country from his hometown… I miss California a lot (especially the sunshine) but I have loved my time here so much that I rarely feel homesick. All of my friends and teammates have made my transition from the west coast to the mid west very easy.

On the transition from high school to college lacrosse… College lacrosse players are bigger, faster, and stronger than in high school. It was hard to adjust to the speed of the game as well as raise my lacrosse IQ when I first made the team. However, my teammates and coaches are very supportive and patient in helping the new guys understand everything so we all can be ready to go this spring.

On his strengths as a midfielder… I have always been a strong passer because my years of playing quarterback in high school help me see the field and read a defense.

On personal and team expectations for the spring… My personal expectations are to become the best lacrosse player that I can be as well as understand our defensive schemes better so that I can help the Spartans lacrosse team win on game days. Coach Holding always talks about how his expectation for us is to win championships and I agree with him. One of the many reasons I came to MSU was because of the winning mentality that surrounds our program, and I want to be a part of that mentality in the years to come.
