Freshman Friday: Tom Smith
There's only two days until Christmas but that won't stop the Freshman Friday team from another feature. This week is defenseman No. 28 Tom Smith. To view his player profile, click here.
1.) When did you first start playing lacrosse?
I first started playing in 7th grade.
2.) Why did you decide to come to Michigan State?
MSU was an easy choice for me because it gave me the chance to attend a great school, be a part of the best college community in the country, and continue playing lacrosse with a great group of guys.
3.) What’s it like going to school far from home?
It's been a different experience for me. Being able to expand your network outside of your hometown is an awesome thing and I've met people from all over the country here at MSU. I enjoy it a lot but it's always nice to be home on breaks as well.
4.) What does it mean to you to play for MSU lacrosse?
Playing for MSU is an awesome opportunity to represent such a great school while continuing my athletic career at a high level. I am very thankful for the opportunities I have been given so far through the MSU lacrosse program.
5.) What’s your favorite lacrosse memory?
First weekend of fall scrimmages at MSU
6.) Do you have any pre-game rituals/superstitions?
I always have to tuck my laces into my cleas throw a lot of tape across the laces. It's more of a safety thing because I always trip on my laces and fall on my face if I don't.
7.) Do you have a nickname on the team?
Do you have a nickname on the team and how did it start?
Sam Robbins gave me the nickname "Herm" because the back of my high school helmet has a sticker that says "Hermits" for our school mascot.
8.) What’s your favorite kind of music?
I'm into everything. A lot of up-tempo and hype-up music for pregames. Snoop Dogg and Blink-182 are my go-to for hanging out.
9.) If you could pick one person to be stuck in an elevator with, who would it be?
I would have to choose Will Pankratz because he has great elevator-exiting techniques, so I've been told.
