Michigan State lands five on All-American Team

Five Michigan State players received Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) All-American honors for the 2016 season. During 2016, the Spartans finished with a record of 9-5, won their fifth consecutive Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association conference tournament title and were invited for the seventh straight year to the 16 team MCLA National Championship tournament. At this year's MCLA tournament, MSU fell in the opening round to the 2015 national champions, Grand Canyon University, 10-7 but won their consolation game vs Colorado State 11-10. #22 Patrick Donovan, a sophomore from Forest Hills Central (Ada Michigan), was named a first team All American selection at close defense. Earlier this post-season, Donovan was named the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) 2016 Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He was named second team All-American and first team All-Conference after his freshman season in 2015.

#34 Sam Uecker, a freshmen who also played at Forest Hills Central (Ada Michigan), was named a third team All-American selection at short stick defensive midfield. Uecker had previously been named to the CCLA first team All-Conference team at the same position.

Three Spartan players received Honorable Mention All American honors for 2016 for their outstanding play:

#5 Mitch Newton, a senior attack from Rockford High School (Rockford Michigan). Newton was also named as a first team attacker on the 2016 CCLA All-Conference team.

#18 Steve McKee, a sophomore midfielder from Holt High School (Holt Michigan). McKee was also named to the 2016 CCLA All-Conference first team at midfield.

#33 Grant Kerney, a senior close defender from Walled Lake Central (Walled Lake Michigan). Kerney was also honored as a first team CCLA All-Conference defender in 2016.
