Spartans battle The Hill Academy in Toronto

Michigan State Men's Lacrosse team lost 7-4 to The Hill Academy in the featured game of The Jammer Classic, a three day celebration of field lacrosse in memory of Jamieson Kuhlmann.

The Spartans and Hill Pride played an entertaining game that featured strong defense, an equal number of face off wins for each team and stellar offensive execution that led to each team's goals.

Sophomore Steve McKee (Holt MI) opened the scoring in the first quarter and tied the score 1-1 on a 10 yard shot. Senior Mitch Newton (Rockford MI) tied the score again 2-2 later in the first quarter when MSU was man-up.

Freshman midfielder Shaun O'loughlin (Pomfret School, CT) scored two goals on the day, including an eight yard shot while running at full speed toward the goal off of his midfield substitution in the third quarter. A MSU attacker hit O'loughlin in full stride at the top of the goal box for the day's most spectacular goal. O'loughlin scored again the fourth quarter on a dodge and 12 yard running shot.

Freshman midfielder John Toth (St Frances De Sales OH) took face offs for the Spartans and Michigan State's face off unit was able to neutralize The Hill after an opening face off win and goal by the Pride to start the game.

Freshman Joseph Catanese (Wheaton IL) played in goal for the Spartans.
