Spartans power past Western Michigan 20-6
#17 Michigan State completed an undefeated 6-0 conference season Sunday evening vs Western Michigan in a game played in Byron Center Michigan before a large crowd of over 1,000 people. Originally a home game for Western Michigan, the venue was moved to Byron Center to help celebrate a "Lacrosse Day with a Cause" to raise money for a Byron Center High School boy's lacrosse player with a rare form of bone cancer.
Michigan State jumped out to 10-0 lead after the first quarter and did not allow the Bronco offense to get a single shot on goal during the opening period. Michigan State won 9 of 11 face offs during the quarter and caused a number of Western Michigan turnovers with an aggressive ride.
The score was 11-3 at half time and 17-5 after three quarters. Michigan State's Kevin Boland started in goal and was relieved after one quarter by Jackson White. Justin Overstreet saw action in goal from early in the third quarter through the end of the game.
The Spartan attack group led scoring on the night. Bennett Osterink (5 goals, 3 assists) led the team with eight points. Charlie Pistner (4 goals, 3 assists) added seven points and Brett Braun (4 goals, 2 assists) six points.
The Spartans are the top seed in the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) Division 1 tournament and will play the #4 seed, Davenport University, at 1:00 pm ET on Saturday, April 29 in Chelsea Michigan. The game will be broadcast live on @Msu_Twitter and Periscope.
