Spartans earn #3 seed in D1 MCLA National Championship - will face #14 seed Oregon in First Round

Third ranked Michigan State (14-1) was awarded the #3 seed in the sixteen team D1 MCLA National Tournament powered by Under Armour. They will play the #14 seed Oregon Ducks (7-6) Monday, May 7 at 6:30 pm EDT in Salt Lake City. Oregon received an automatic bid by winning the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse Conference in a 12-10 upset win over #19 Simon Fraser earlier on Sunday.

"This is the highest seed Michigan State has received in comparison with our eight previous visits to the national tournament", said Spartan head coach Cam Holding. "Our team feels their best lacrosse is still ahead of them and they are looking forward to playing some great competition next week in Salt Lake City".

The Spartans will be busy this week with final exams and a charity game to raise money for Type 1 Diabetes research Tuesday night against D2 MCLA power Grand Valley State - a game rescheduled from a freak April ice storm two weeks ago. The game will be played 70 miles west of Michigan State at Kenowa Hills High School in northwest Grand Rapids.

"Grand Valley is going to Salt Lake City to compete for another D2 national championship so we're both viewing the game Tuesday night as a mutually beneficial tune-up" said Holding. "With final exams we'll only have a partial team available but we expect a good game with the Lakers and are happy to participate in a charity game for such a good cause."
