Spartans travel to Mount Pleasant to Face Chippewas Wednesday

Michigan State travels to play CCLA conference opponent Central Michigan University Wednesday evening, March 23, in the annual battle of Highway 127 in Michigan. The Spartan's Men's team brings a 1-1 conference record into the match-up, while CMU is 0-2 with losses to Pittsburgh and West Michigan. 

Michigan State Head Coach Cam Holding talked about the upcoming game: "The team is anxious to play another CCLA conference opponent and to compete and continually try to improve all aspects of our game. We found a few additional combinations for our face off and midfield units on Sunday evening during the Pittsburgh game that we think will help us moving forward".

The Spartans will try and improve their overall 2-4 record against the Chips on Wednesday evening. "Although we've played six games, which is more than half of our regular season schedule, we've played those games in a short, 14-day span" Holding explained. The Spartans have played the #1 strength of schedule of all Division 1 Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association teams according to Laxpower.com (http://www.laxpower.com/update16/binmen/sos05.php) with games against #1 Davenport, #2 Georgia Tech, #7 Virginia Tech, #16 Liberty, #28 Auburn and #29 Pittsburgh. Assistant Coach & Defensive Coordinator Dan Catzere added "We owed Virginia Tech and Liberty a game this year which caused our spring break trip to expand to over 2,500 miles of travel on the bus. We'll take a look at how we can adjust our scheduling in future years to continue to play a strong strength of schedule but not burden the team with travel, especially the first four games of the season."

Wednesday's game is scheduled to be played at the sparkling new $8 million CMU Lacrosse, Soccer and Student Recreation Complex on the Chippewa's campus.

The Spartans logged an additional 720 miles in a win at the University of Pittsburgh Sunday night and will tally 300 more miles for the road trips to CMU Wednesday, and to Oakland University in Rochester Michigan for a March 30 game. "Putting 3,500 miles of travel on a lacrosse team in one month creates a lot of wear and tear on the players. It's tough to literally get off the bus and compete at a high level. Thankfully the rest of the season has a more relaxed schedule that is nicely spaced out with conference games and scrimmages to keep the team sharp" said Coach Holding. The Spartan's only remaining regular season, long-distance road trip will be April 10 when they participate in an international friendly game against The Hill Academy as the featured game at the 2016 Jammer Classic near Toronto.  http://thejammerclassic.com/
