All eyes on Chelsea - Spartans set their sites on 7th Straight CCLA Tourney Title
Michigan State (12-1, 5-0) cruised to a 22-3 victory over Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant Thursday night to finish the 2018 CCLA D1 Conference scheduled with a perfect 5-0 mark. Michigan State also finished the 2017 season undefeated in conference play. Since a one goal loss to Davenport on St Patrick's Day 2016, the Green & White have won 23 straight CCLA conference games.
The Spartans, ranked 4th nationally in the April 18 MCLA D1 Under Armour Coach's Poll, will be the #1 seed for the CCLA conference tournament set for this weekend, April 21-22 in Chelsea Michigan. They will play the #4 seed University of Pittsburgh at 1:00 pm EDT Saturday in the first of two semifinal games. #2 Minnesota will take on #3 Davenport at 4:00 pm EDT Saturday. The winners will play for the CCLA Conference Title Sunday at Noon EDT in Chelsea.
Michigan State is seeking a seventh consecutive CCLA D1 Conference Title. They set a record last year winning their sixth in a row defeating Davenport in the semifinal and Pittsburgh in the final. The University of Michigan won five consecutive CCLA titles from 2007-2011 before ascending to NCAA D1 status in 2012.
The winner of the CCLA tournament earns an Automatic Bid to the 16 team MCLA D1 National Championship, held May 7-12 in Salt Lake City.
